Achievement as ADM General, Burdwan, (February-October 2009)

One made significant progress in fields as mentioned above, but one of the major highlights of this tenure was my functioning as the Returning Officer of Burdwan East Parliamentary Constituency, a responsibility which I handled with panache. We were the first to declare the results in our state and there were not any serious complaints with regards to the conduct of the election in my constituency. Another exceptional contribution could be said to be the ISO certification of the Burdwan Collectorate which was possible due to personal interest, initiative and monitoring. Latter definitely resulted in better service delivery to the common public in every term. The law and order handling at Mankalkot in Katwa block was a challenging task which was accomplished with success.

Achievement as DM Birbhum (2009-2010).

The most striking contribution of my tenure here has been in NREGA wherein Birbhum has got into a leadership position. The total number of mandays per household, the average expenditure per Gram Panchayat, women participation and overall performance along different sectors has improved remarkably, taking us to the second position in the state. The same has been possible due to rigorous monitoring, taking of many initiatives to improve and expedite decision making. Again, in implementation of schemes like BRGF, RIDF, and PMEGP also, we have become leaders.


I have taken various measures to improve scheme monitoring including holding weekly meeting with the SDOs, weekly meeting at Block level with the Prodhans and other officials, regular field visits by all the district, sub-divisional and block officials and regular video conference with the BDOs, SDOs and all concerned. Besides, special initiatives and efforts have been made for improvement of tourism infrastructures at various places including Tarapith, Bakreshwar, Pathor Chapuri, Fullora and other prominent places, something which have been appreciated a lot by the local people. We have also given emphasis on the improvement of office attendance and discipline including renovation and beautification of the office premises.

Right to Information Act has got special attention as also better maintenance of office records. We hope to get the Birbhum Collectorate ISO certified very soon, process for which has already been initiated. Introduction of a simplified system has resulted in 70 per cent jump in the issuance of caste certificates. I have also initiated monitoring the affairs of various municipalities and the schemes implemented through them. The local law and order, improvement of traffic, starting a free coaching and career counseling for the local youth for various competitive exams including medical joint entrance examinations are also among special initiatives taken by me.
